Why colonies get big before anyone notices
Rural rooflines are seen from farther away, so an Escalon infestation is usually multi-season by the time it gets reported.
In a tract neighborhood a neighbor spots the mess in weeks. On an Escalon lot with a deep setback and mature trees, birds work an array for a year or more before the droppings streak far enough down the tile to be obvious from the drive.
Abundant feed nearby is the other half of it. Orchard and grain ground means the flock never has a reason to relocate, so the same ledge gets reused season after season.
